JAGS started in 2002

The Jet Art Group Shimane (JAGS) was a committee of 7 people who were proposing a two week exhibition of artworks produced by foreigners living in Shimane. The exhibition was held in the basement vaults at Kara Koro Kobo, in Matsue City, from May 17th until May 31st.

Satomi Miyazako and Paula Black

All the activites, setting and founding steps were conducted by the members of the committee on a volunteer basis. Our president, Paula Black, started this project and her energy was vital to the realisation of this very first exhibition.

We also need to give warm thanks to our sponsors for the 2002 JAGS exhibition. We were fortunate to be supported by the Shimane International Center, our principal benefactor. Also Asahi Beer, the Shimane branch of JA and Shimane Toyota took the risk of funding us despite the economical situation. A warm thank you to Mr Hayashi, from Toyota, who took time from his busy schedule to come to our opening ceremony.

Apposing the exhibition pancarte

The Foreign Buyers Club supplied us with a generous basket of foreign foods which we presented to the winner of our exhibition: Hasinah Amoodi.

We also wish to extend our warmest thanks to the MIEA staff whose help has been fundamental to the organisation of this event. We particularly thank Ms. Satomi Miyazako and Mr. Yukiyasu Yada for their time and involvement.
