Welcome to the Lyrics Worksheet
The Lyrics Worksheet is a tool to create worksheets for use in English classes in Japan. The worksheets created are intended to be used by students while they listen to a song in English, and try to fill in blanks (in parentheses) in the lyrics as they listen to the song.
How to use the Lyrics Worksheet
- First, click on the name of a music artist or group on the left side of the screen.
- A list of songs by that music artist or group will appear under the name.
- Alternatively, if you are looking for a specific word of phrase in English or Japanese, you can type it in the "Search Lyrics" box at the top left corner of the screen and then press the "Enter" or "Return" key on your keyboard.
- This will display a table with songs that have the search word or phrase in them.
- From there, you can select the song you want as described here.
- Find the song you want to use, and click on the name of the song.
- You will see a loading screen as the lyrics and Japanese translation are received.
- Once the lyrics are loaded, you can click on individual words in English to turn them into parentheses.
- If you make a mistake, you can click on the parenthesized word, and it will return to normal.
- Try it out: I love you
- Once you have the words you want turned into parentheses, you can click on Japanese characters to underline them as hints.
- Like the English words, if you make a mistake, you can click on an underlined character and it will become un-underlined.
- When you are ready to print your worksheet, first do a "Print Preview."
- Under most web browsers, the "Print Preview" option is under the "File" menu.
- You will notice that only the worksheet itself is printed out.
- At this point, if you are satisfied with your worksheet, you can print it out, but often you will want to adjust the font size of the print-out.
- To do this, exit the "Print Preview" screen and click the "Larger Font" or "Smaller Font" buttons at the top and bottom of the page to either increase or decrease the font size respectively.
- Check your worksheet with "Print Preview" again, and when you are satisfied with it, print it out.
How can I help?
The best way you can help out is to add songs to the database. To add a song:
- Click the "Add a song" link on the left side of the screen.
- Fill in the form with lyrics.
- Double check your work.
- Click the "Submit" button on either the top or bottom of the screen.
After you have submitted your work, if there is an error, please email trv and he will correct it for you.
Likewise, if you want a song deleted, please email trv and he will do it for you.
