Today's Journal
(今日の日記)

今日はよかったが一日中、大変な頭痛があってしまう。午前、教育委員さんたちと一緒に改善センターで明日の準備をした。明日、改善センターで2つの会議があるから。午後で、シグニーとシグニーの両親と一緒に谷祭りに行った。私はドラムを弾いたり、両親はシンボルを弾いたりした。シグニーは着物を着た。

Today was good, but I had a headache all day. In the morning I did some preparation at the Kaizen Center for tomorrow with the Borad of Education staff. Tomorrow, there will be two meetings at the Kaizen Center. In the afternoon I went to the Tani Festival with Signe and her parents. I played the drum, and the parents played the symbols. Signe wore her kimono.

In Today's Kanji, what does "Chinese Reading (音読み)" reading mean?

Good question, Mike. The "Chinese Reading" isn't, as you guessed, Chinese at all, but actually comes from the way Japanese people of old used to say that Chinese character.

Here is a great summary from http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Kanji#On.27yomi:
The on'yomi (音読み) of a kanji (also called its on reading or Chinese reading) is based on the Japanese approximation of the original Chinese pronunciation of the character at the time it was introduced. Some kanji were reintroduced from different parts of China at different times, and so have multiple on'yomi (and often multiple meanings as well). Contrariwise, wasei kanji typically have no on'yomi at all.
