Today's Journal
(今日の日記)

今日は雨の日。雨の日が大好き、私。子どものとき、ロスで雨が少し珍しかったから。たとえ1時間目でも、今日の2年生は元気だった。初めてで楽しいゲームをしたから。ゲームの後でみなは目が明けた。1年生の授業はスピッキングテストであった。たいていの生徒ができたから私はうれしくびっくりした。となりの高橋さんが一番偉い!

Today is a rainy day. I love rainy days because when I was a kid rain was pretty rare in LA. Even though it was first period, the 8th graders were energetic today. It was because we started the class off with a game. After the game, everyone's eyes were open. In the 7th graders class we has a speaking test. I was pleasantly surprised because most of the students could do it. My neighbor, Miss Takahashi, was the greatest!

So, is 円 pronounced en or marui? If the old way of pronouncing is en, then how come all the examples pronounce it as en? What does hte Japanese reading mean then?

Here's 2円 for your trouble...

So, 円 by itself is a noun meaning 'yen,' perhaps because the money is round (that is right out of my butt), BUT when it is combined with other characters (as in 円滑, enkatsu) it means circle.

The Japanese way of writing 円い, marui, is an adj. meaning circular. In this case, the only word where it is pronounced maru is marui, but I could be wrong.

In any case I will add a meaning field to the Japanese readings just in case they have meanings.
