Today was really busy. I worked all day. I had two classes in the morning, and after that I had to write a short essay to use in the 9th grade elective English class. Then, I had to create some food picture cards with our new laminator. When that was done, I had to translate an article about Halloween for the local Iinan newsletter. Feel free to read it:
Have you ever wondered how Halloween began? The origins of today's celebrations on October 31st marks the beginning of the Celtic new year when the crops were harvested to prepare food for the long, dark winter. October 31st was also the eve of the festival of Samhain. Samhain was a joyful harvest festival that marked the end of the old year and the beginning of the new one. It was a time for paying homage to the sun god Baal who had provided the people with ripened grain for the upcoming winter. The Samhain festival marked the transition from life to death, and because the lives of the Celts were deeply intertwined with nature, the death of the world around them became associated with human death. It was believed that the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead were thinnest on Samhain. Therefore, the living were able to communicate with their deceased loved ones, but both good and evil spirits were able to travel between the worlds. To scare the evil spirits away, the Celts dressed up in ghoulish costumes and paraded around their neighborhoods. They also carved faces into turnips and lit them with candles. In the United States turnips were replaced with pumpkins. That is why the pumpkin is widely regarded as a symbol of modern-day Halloween. Let's enjoy Halloween together!

今日は本当に忙しかったです。一日中働きました。今朝、２つの授業を教えたけど、次の３年生選択英語B授業のために英語の作文を書かなければなりませんでした。その後で３年生のスピーキングクラスから新しいラミネーターで食べ物絵カードを作りました。その後で飯南町広報のためハロウィンテーマ記事を書き訳しました。読んでください：
ハロウィンを始まることをいつか考えました？最近の１０月３１日のハロウィン祭りは事実はとても大変な冬のために収穫されるケルトの正月でした。１０月３１日は「サウーウェン祭り」の前日でした。サウーウェン祭りは去年を終わりと今年を始まりを祭る楽しく収穫祭りでした。次の冬のためによく実った穀物を差し上げた太陽の神バール様に敬意される時間でした。サウーウェン祭りは命から死までの移行と象徴しました。ケルト人の人生は自然と密接に結び付けるので、回る自然が亡くなることの冬は人が亡くなることと結び付けました。サウーウェン祭りで生きものの世界と亡くなったものの世界の間は一番細いと信じていました。だから、そのとき、人々は亡くなった親戚と会えるけれど、いい魂と悪い魂も私たちの世界に行けます。悪い魂を怖がらせるためにケルト人はおそろいコスチュームを着て、近所で歩きました。カブで顔を彫って、ロウソクで光りました。アメリカでかぼちゃはカブに変わりました。それから、今、かぼちゃはハロウィンのシンボルになりました。一緒に楽しいハロウィンを過ごしましょう！
