I think I have Affluenza. I like buying various things to make me feel happy, but I always end up wanting more. I have been buying a lot of magazines on international relations and American comic books lately. Reading the magazines are useful for understanding the world today, and reading the comics are a good way to relax, but I feel guilty whenever I use money because I am still paying off my student loans.

This last week has been very busy. Last week on Thursday and Friday, my high school buddy and I went to Matsue and set up an art exhibition of works from foreigners living in Shimane. The opening was on Friday night, so my buddy and I put on our tuxedos and went to it. It was a big success. We just rested during the weekend, though. I went to the always-fun Akana Elementary School on Monday. Next time wil be my last there. Yesterday I went to the English Day at Tonbara Jr. High School. It was great!

The kids were as energetic as they were yesterday for some odd reason. I have no idea why, but I suspect that it has something to do with this season and its effects on the hearts of adolecents. Anyway, I was not busy at all today, so I spend most of my time reading international relations news magazines. One day I want to be the one making the news, instead of just reading about it.

It was really hot today. Summer is coming fast. Maybe it was because it was a sunny day, but al the students seemed very happy today. So, of course, that made me happy, too. I have noticed that everyone has been in a good mood as of last. Sometimes I have bad days at this job, but actually, most days are a lot like today, really good. The ALT life is really pretty sweet.

I went to the premiere of the DVD that I became a actor for. Almost every weekend for three months I had to go to Matsue city by car, which is an hour and a half drive, to work on the DVD project. Signe got lonely, but the DVD turned out really great. It is all Japanese High School level English, so ALTs all over Japan should be able to use it in their High School classrooms! After we viewed the DVD I was awarded the Best Actor Award! That put a smile on my face.

I read an interesting article today. It is in the political science journal "The National Interest" and it is entitled "Leveraging Islam," by Amitai Etzioni. Basically it says in the Middle East there are two types of Islam: radical Islam and moderate Islam. The article makes the argument that the West should support moderate Islam. I do not think all Islam is bad...
